Cholesterol and other undesirable chemicals will be absorbed by polymers in two drugs currently being developed by GelTex Pharmaceuticals of Waltham, MA. The RenaGel and CholestaGel polymers will soak up certain chemicals such as phosphorus and calcium, as they pass through the digestive system.

Healing cancer: vaccines that prod the body to cure itself are finally being readied for market

A number of biotech and pharmaceutical firms are planning to market cancer vaccines, that will alleviate cancer symptoms. Such vaccines are expected to improve in the future, with research concentrating on the use of immobilized cancer cells to stimulate the natural immune response of the body.
