Building a super car
Article Abstract:
Ron Ayers has developed a Thrust Super Sonic Car to break the world speed record, 633.5 mph, and the sound barrier at a cost of eight million pound sterling. It may be able to attain a speed of 1,000 mph and will be ready for testing at 350 mph by Jun 1995. The vehicle contains two Rolls Royce Spey 205 jet engines producing a combined thrust of 100,000 horse power. The vehicle will be driven by RAF Flight Lieutenant Andy Green in September in Black Rock Desert, NV. The design and construction of the car is discussed.

Paying more for less
Article Abstract:
The engineering industry needs to recruit trained personnel in order to maintain specialization and quality in the manufacturing industry, and the costs of recruiting appear to be increasing. The graduates demand more money while the firms are in doubt whether they can afford to employ trained expertise. There has been a discrepancy between the demand and supply of engineering staff because of salaries in industry that remain below non-industry engineering salaries.
