National Institute of Mental Health researchers have found that alteration of natural light-and-darkness patterns by artificial light may be responsible for some human health problems. Ergo Science is testing a drug therapy for diabetes and obesity that resets hormonal rhythms.

A double-duty gene that was hypothesized as the evolutionary beginning of angiosperms has been found in the weed Arabidopsis thaliana. Animesh Ray found that the gene SIN1 controls the development of ovules and triggers flower growth at the appropriate time.
