Can some infants beat HIV?
Article Abstract:
Two large studies conducted in Europe identified a total of 21 children born to HIV-positive mothers who tested negative for the virus after initially testing positive. Skeptics believe the results may have been due to contamination or that the virus remains hidden in the lymph tissues.

Umbilical cords: turning garbage into clinical gold
Article Abstract:
Some researchers are advocating the storage of blood from the umbilical cord. Cord blood is rich in stem cells and could be used in place of cells from bone marrow transplants. Use of cord blood in gene therapy is another possibility.

Protein proves to be a key link in innate immunity

Researchers have discovered a protein called mannose-binding protein (MBP) that appears to be the key to the innate immune system. Defects in the MPB gene may be the cause of immunodeficiency disorders in children and adults.
