Commission proposes new definition of misconduct
Article Abstract:
The panel plans to recommend to the Department of Health and Human Services by mid-Nov 1995 that the misconduct definition already used by universities and the federal Office of Research Integrity should be changed to include failing to respect others' intellectual contributions and property.

HHS is still looking for a definition
Article Abstract:
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has reservations about some of the proposals of the Commission on Research Integrity. Many of the recommendations will probably be enacted, but HHS seeks a narrower definition of misconduct and different Office of Research Integrity rules.

Med schools receive Hughes windfall

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute made $80 million in grants to medical colleges for faculty salaries, capital projects and other projects to facilitate research. The size of the individual grants ranged from $2.2 million to $4 million.
