Companies fear FDA rule on antibodies

Biotechnology companies are protesting that the classification of the antibody types used in IHC procedures as type 2 medical devices would be too restrictive and make them too expensive to be profitable. They also fear that other biologics will receive a high-risk classification.

Fishermen threaten Galapagos
Article Abstract:
Sea-cucumber fishermen, called pepineros, took scientists hostage in the Galapagos to force Ecuador to let them fish the neraby abundant waters. Earlier they had coerced the government into opening the fisheries for a three-month period by torturing and killing Galapagos animals.

Spotted owl plan kindles debate on salvage logging
Article Abstract:
Environmentalists claim that Clinton's plan for the Pacific Northwest would allow loggers to remove the very trees that spotted owls and other animals tend to use as homes. They are also concerned that the logging companies may be permitted to remove healthy trees.
