European labs brace for German cuts: international collaboration

Germany, the largest contributor to international European research labs, announced plans to reduce its contributions an average of 8% in the nation's latest budget. CERN and other labs are worried that the cuts will endanger ongoing projects and that other countries may follow Germany's lead.

NASA rethinks the space station
Article Abstract:
Pres Bill Clinton has given engineers 90 days to develop scaled-down versions of the space station that will cost about $15 billion, half the price of the original design. Meanwhile, House Science Committee Chmn George Brown warned that none of the scaled-back versions will be approved.
