Comparative investment strategies in training and technology
Article Abstract:
Investments in technology and expenditures for training personnel to use new technologies vary across firms. Various categories of firms are compared for such cost differentials. Studies reveal that age of the company, industry type and nationality of the organization are some factors which cause these differences. In a comparison of US firms and US-based foreign-affiliated firms with American employees, investment strategies for technology acquisition, research and development and personnel training varied according to the firm's nationality. Greater investments usually improved performance.

Technology, globalization and defence: military electronics strategies in a changing world
Article Abstract:
The acclaimed US military performance during the 1991 Persian Gulf War has given rise to the perception that the electronic systems used contained the most advanced semiconductor devices. Reality proves to be contrary to this widely held perception since most of the advances in semiconductor technology were made in the commercial sectors. Military implementation of emergent technologies was also hampered by institutional factors. This situation makes evident the need for improved planning and management of military technological assets through cooperation with the commercial sectors.
