Forests on Fire
Article Abstract:
The impact of low-intensity surface fires on Amazonian rain forests has been underestimated. These fires, along with the effects of logging, increase the vulnerability of tropical forests to future burning. The Global Fire Monitoring Center was established in 1998 to monitor, archive, and distribute information on the fire problem.
