Crack closure studies to determine the effects of simple load interaction
Article Abstract:
The effects of load interactions on the fatigue growth rate characteristics of a material were investigated through crack closure and propagation studies. An aluminum alloy was subjected to crack closure and propagation tests to determine the material's tensile and stress responses under single overload and block loading conditions. A subresonant machine was employed to apply the loads at a frequency of 25 hertz. The results measured by this approach showed a strong agreement with those obtained through experimental procedures.

Analysis of part-throughwall crack in a pipe under combined tension and bending
Article Abstract:
The behavior of an internal circunferential part-throughwall crack in a pipe under combined tension and bending loading is studied using a J-resistance curve solution. The solution uses the resistance curve obtained from experimental load-displacement crack extension data to generate the required J-resistance curve of the pipe. The load-carrying capacity of the cracked pipe is then determined through fracrure analysis. The results of this study are found to be in good agreement with the experimental data.
