Crossing the narrows
Article Abstract:
The construction of the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge, the third suspension bridge in the area, is discussed. The bridge is one of the first to use the design/build delivery method and was tested using two complete, side-by-side bridge models. The new bridge will carry eastbound traffic, while the adjacent bridge, built in 1950, will carry westbound traffic.

This article discusses the first new suspension bridge proposed to be built in the United states over the Carquinez strait in California. The bridge will be constructed using latest technologies and testing methods setting new standard in modern suspension bridge design, especially with respect to seismic safety.

Unbonded brace frames debut at University of California
Article Abstract:
This article discusses structural aspects of unbonded brace frame type of construction extensively practiced in Japan. The new construction method is reported to be suitable for buildings in high-risk seismic zones and the first building is under construction at the University of California at Davis.
