DOE labs should double environmental research, panel says
Article Abstract:
An advisory task force formed by the Dept. of Energy (DOE) recommended that the agency increase its environmental science and technology research efforts. The task force specifically noted that $400 million would be appropriate for such an effort and this should be gradually increased. The task force report stated that DOE laboratories are currently the only facilities with the ability to conduct the large-scale research needed for new environmental management technologies.

EPA research faces major cuts
Article Abstract:
EPA officials openly admit that they face a difficult challenge in their efforts to obtain funding for environmental research efforts from the Republican-controlled Congress. GOP lawmakers have proposed deep cuts in many key EPA research programs, including those concerning the development of new environmental technologies. Given the anti-regulatory mood in Congress, EPA officials are not very optimistic that the proposed cuts will be abandoned by its sponsors.
