Demographic Consequences of Declining Fertility
Article Abstract:
Contraceptive use and a decline in fertility rates amongst industrialized nations has led some to claim that the population explosion is over. Yet global population rates will continue to increase due to increases in longevity, the birthrate which is still three children per couple, and population momentum. Highly industrialized areas, such as the United States and Europe, will see a decline in population first.
