Denmark debut for composite bridge
Article Abstract:
The first pedestrian composite bridge was unveiled in Kolding, Denmark, on Jun 1997. The 38 m bridge was constructed by Fiberline Composite A/S through the joint efforts of the city mayor and Henrik Thorning, Fiberline's managing director. The construction of composite bridge over Denmark railway was perceived by Thorning as a replacement for the old bridge which was taken down due to the construction of the railway. The bridge is relatively lighter compared to a steel bridge because the materials used were composite materials.

Surviving a layoff
Article Abstract:
The civil engineering profession is not immune to the layoffs that frequently occur in other industries. However, there are several measures that can be taken by civil engineers to cushion the impact of layoffs. These include the preparation of an effective resume, the adoption of a networking scheme that will help them obtain job leads and the cultivation of a tenacious work ethic.
