Detention pond avoids pollution
Article Abstract:
Pittsburgh International Airport hired the services of consulting engineers Burns and McDonnell to create an environmentally safe and effective structure for the US Air Force Jet Fuel Storage Complex. Because of budget constraints, the airport could not replace the undersized storm drains and chose to construct a detention pond instead. The construction of the detention pond faced several challenges including its location, soil composition and the danger of jet fuel reaching groundwater. Therefore, the firm had to exercise great caution to keep from polluting anything.
