EPA puts MTBE water degradation before air quality benfits
Article Abstract:
The EPA plans to help Congress reduce the use of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) because of concerns over water quality. The oxygenate had been approved for use in automobile fuels because it would help reduce air pollution. However, MTBE has been found to be the cause of increased drinking water contamination.
