Ethical dimensions of health technology assessment: being economic with economic principles?
Article Abstract:
The economic assessment of health technologies have been employed due to the increasing demands on health care resources. The rationale behind the methods developed for economic evaluation has been given little thought. It is demonstrated that the recommended methods currently being used do not include basic economic principles on the efficient utilization of health care resources.

Using quality indicators to develop an automated measure of adverse events
Article Abstract:
Hospital data systems must be transformed into aggregate data which reflect systematic clinic care problems in support of quality improvement initiatives. A hospital system is presented which employs generic quality indicators to construct an automated system which can determine adverse events and give primary importance to quality improvement.

The Clinton administration's proposal concerning managed care has forced insurance companies and the government to control health care costs. An analysis is done on the use of data analysis systems using information technology as a tool for tracking costs and for assisting managers in controlling costs.
