Fiat Avio, the aerospace arm of Fiat Group, has installed a product data management (PDM) system supplied by Sherpa Corp. at its unit, based in Milan, Italy. Some 500 employees use the system, which has reduced engineering time by 50% and also cut design time. The PDM system contains all data related to product designs and is accessible to all involved in the design and manufacturing process.

The use of ChemOffice software ($1,899) permits the drawing of formulas and chemical structures. The program, in addition to the ChemDraw function, provides tailored information and search functions of a sophisticated nature. The program, from CambridgeSoft Corp., has been revised several times, and versions for both Macintosh and Windows are offered.

An evaluation is presented on the Data Desk 6.0 statistical analysis software designed by Data Description Inc. and priced between $650-$795. The features of this program and how useful it is for research is given as well as some helpful functions of it. Common statistical functions for physical, biological and social sciences are provided.
