Smart cards, which use tiny microchips and are used for ordinary financial transactions, are already prevalent in France and other parts of Europe and are soon expected to be used more in the US. More microcomputing power will allow smart cards to have more applications.

Objective Individual Combat Weapon rifles will be released for military applications by 2005. The rifles, which are accurate up to 1,000 m, utilize two kinds of ammunitions, one is a 20mm high explosive air-bursting round and the other is a standard 5.56mm NATO bullet.
