Evolutionary process
Article Abstract:
The concept of world class manufacturing has changed since the term was coined in 1984. A study conducted on 900 small and medium-size enterprises in the UK revealed that successful firms share common attributes that will more than likely propel them to world-class ranking. These include a workforce of over 50 employees, a history of expansion, competent and visionary managers, ownership of their own products and a broad customer base. The overriding principle in attaining world class status is leadership, characterized by vision and strength.
