Fortov named to new post; Saltykov out

Russian Federation for Basic Research pres Fortov was named to chair Russia's new State Committee for Science and Technology, which replaces the ministry of science and its head, Boris Saltykov. Fortov is expected to forge better relations with the Russian Academy of Sciences.

New R&D chief asserts his authority
Article Abstract:
Fortov announced that Russia's research and development policies will be set by one state committee, which will also coordinate the activities of all Russia's research institutions. Fortov believes the government will grant the new committee the power to conduct state policy.
