Fugacity-based model of PCB bioaccumulation in complex aquatic food webs
Article Abstract:
A study aimed at developing a fugacity-based model that will determine bioaccumulation in an aquatic food chain is presented. A simulation of the bioconcentration and biomagnification activity of organic contaminants in complex food webs was performed using certain classes of organisms. The organisms are observed on their behavior. It is believed that the availability of a fugacity-based model will help in the accurate evaluation of the bioconcentration and biomagnification phenomena of organic contaminants in complex food webs.

Dietary changes cause temporal fluctuations in polychlorinated biphenyl levels in herring gull eggs from Lake Ontario
Article Abstract:
The persistence of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) in the eggs of herring gulls have been traced to their consumption of alewives. A study was conducted to detect the causative factor responsible for the seasonal fluctuation of PCB levels in herring gull eggs living in Lake Ontario. An analysis of stable isotopes (15N/14N) on herring gull eggs showed a correlation with seasonal availability and consumption of alewives.
