Getting to the Roots of Carbon Loss, Chili's Gain
Article Abstract:
Plant ecologist Gary Nabhan of Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and graduate student Joshua Tewksbury of the University of Montana studied 150 hours of collected videotape, collected in southern Arizona, to find out which wildlife eats chiles. The peppers were eaten only by birds, particularly curve-billed thrashers. Desert packrats and cactus mice ignored the chilies, opting for another red fruit that was not spicy.
