Going for the burn
Article Abstract:
Brock Metal, Cannock, UK, uses a modified standard reverbatory furnace to remelt aluminum cleanly and cheaply. The Recycle Incineration Low Exhaust Emission system operates at 38% efficiency, compared to 10.7% for conventional furnaces; uses energy at three GJ/tonne rather than 10 GJ/tonne, and costs four pounds less per tonne. It uses exhaust gas heat to maintain the furnace temperature, burns the fumes from the scrap and uses pure oxygen instead of air.
