Greener dry cleaners
Article Abstract:
A novel class of surfactant used as a major ingredient in dry cleaning agents was developed replacing the conventional but toxic main cleaning substance, perchlorethylene. Joseph DiSimone, head of Micell Technologies, Inc. has discovered the technology which uses liquid carbon dioxide that captures dirt and grease, leaving harmless and recyclable left over compounds. Although the machine eliminates the cost of separate coating machines and the likelihood of heat damage to the garments, it costs approximately twice the cost of perchloroethylene machines.

Article Abstract:
A particle physicist recounts how the termination of the superconducting supercollider project, as well as the perception that the study of physics is useless, negatively affected the field of energy physics. It prompted other physicists to leave the field and engage in more financially rewarding careers. He himself decided to pursue a second degree in the field of computer engineering but later realized that it is better to pursue a career he likes best than to engage in something he is not interested in.
