Hidden Models in Biopolymers
Article Abstract:
Sequence data is readily available, but it presents the problem of finding genes and translated proteins hidden in the nucleotide databases. Functional annotation also presents a problem. The hidden Markov model (HMM) is one computational technique that is useful in solving these problems. However, HMMs are limited in modeling correlations between distant residues.

For the Latest Information, Tune to Channel KcsA
Article Abstract:
Researchers introduced a new era in publishing the crystal structure of KcsA, the {K.sup.+] channel of the bacterium Streptomyces lividans last year. A computational analysis of the stalilizing [K.sup.+] ions of electrostatic forces in the central cavity are reported.

Models of Ca2+ release channel adaptation
Article Abstract:
Two models of channel adaptation attempt to account for the complex behavior of the sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca+ release channel. The first suggests that an assembly of simple interactive monomers causes the complex adaptive channel behavior.
