Highly selective inorganic crystalline ion exchange material for Sr2+ in acidic solutions
Article Abstract:
A novel inorganic titanate ion exchange compound was synthesized by the stoichiometric reaction of titanium isoporoxide, sodium hydroxide, tetramethylammonium hydroxide and water in a basic medium. The thermally stable product exhibited good selectivity for the removal of Sr and Cs in from acidic solutions such as acid-waste sludge. Furthermore, removal of Sr by the inorganic titanate was not affected by calcium and magnesium in acidic solutions.

The vision of the pore
Article Abstract:
The discovery of the crystal structure of the potassium ion channel answers longstanding questions on how membranes select ions and control their movements. The location of the pore through which ions pass was identified with the discovery of the P (pore) region and K+ channel signature sequence.

Unscrambling color vision
Article Abstract:
Research is providing new insignts into the color mechanism of the retina. Results of one study support the view that the surrounds of ganglion cells in the retina contain more than one type of cone.
