Article Abstract:
This article discusses the common trend of sitting for portraiture in 17th-century England. Isaac Newton's various portraits are discussed as examples of the generally reclusive scientist's public image in his portraits and how the scientific community in the 18th and 19th-centuries selected which image they wished to represent him, reflecting their own views on science.
