In Mao's China, politically correct math
Article Abstract:
Mathematicians in China during the Cultural Revolution were able to explore nonstandard analysis of calculus, which appealed to both Karl Marx and Chairman Mao, in order to avoid political persecution. The mathematicians were able to draw parallels between research and dialectical politics.

Tamas Keleti proved a theorem of continuous functions being made equal by changes of coordinates that was based on a mountain climbing problem. However, Keleti discovered that the theorem had already been proved in 1952.
