Industrial R&D gets boost despite lack of patent reform
Article Abstract:
R&D spending in India is on the rise, helping Indian companies compete with foreign multinational companies, which are growing in number due to India's political reforms. The general consensus that India's antiquated intellectual property laws will soon be reformed is also encouraging increases in R&D spending.

Evolutionary biology: longer tusks are healthy signs
Article Abstract:
Asian elephants with the longest tusks have been shown to have a heartier genetic resistance to parasites. This increases the risk of elephant extinction, because long tusks are prime poaching targets, thus depleting the genetic pool of the species.
