Mineral development threatens proposed Labrador national park
Article Abstract:
A planned national park in northern Labrador's high and rugged Torngat Mountains is threatened by mineral staking that began just before the park's proposed boundaries were announced. The Canadian Nature Foundation and other conservation groups have petitioned Newfoundland to stop the staking.

The Bonnet Plume is home to a variety of wildlife such as Dall sheep, caribou, moose and wolverines. It also plays a vital role in the hunting, fishing and trapping traditions of the Tetlit Gwich'in and Nacho Nyak Dun peoples. Proposals for exploratory mining threaten the ecosystem.

Lawsuit over the Bonnet Plume
Article Abstract:
The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society has filed suits against the unregulated mining activities of Westmin Resources near the Bonnet Plume River. Theses lawsuits also challenge government policies that allow exploratory mining in public lands.
