Is it ethical to profit from a natural or man-made disaster?
Article Abstract:
Engineering firms' profiting during disasters has raised questions on ethics. A study of existing professional codes of ethics reveal the absence of specific provisions about this issue. However, profit encourages innovations and creativity in the engineering profession while the moral and ethical aspects of profit during disaster are not clearly defined. Engineers should see disasters as the chance to voluntarily render their time, resources and expertise. This will enable them to provide social service but will allow them profit opportunities when they render services professionally.

Environmental ethics: the whole truth
Article Abstract:
Structural engineers and their employers do not always reveal facts about a project that could affect the environment. Environmentalists and firms are always disputing environmental quality management. Firm owners force engineers and scientists working on their projects to give a positive report and understate negative effects. Environmentalists insist that firms using hazardous chemicals should do a thorough project evaluation.
