Kinetics of mercury(II) adsorption and desorption on soil
Article Abstract:
A study aimed at determining the rates of Mercury(II) adsorption and desorption on soil and the mechanism involved in the process is presented. The experiment utilized a stirred-flow method to allow the proper analysis of Hg(II)'s adsorption and desorption kinetics on four soils at pH 6. A one-site second-order kinetic model proved useful in determining the adsorption and desorption rate coefficients. The mechanisms that govern the retention and release reaction rates of HG(II) on soil were found to be chemical reaction and diffusion processes.

Slow sorption kinetics of pentachlorophenol on soil: concentration effects
Article Abstract:
The concentration effects on the sorption kinetics of pentachlorophenol (PCP) on soil was studied and shown to have no quantifiable relationship to solution-phase PCP. The slow sorption kinetics of PCP on soil was shown to be concentration dependent, but there was no relationship between concentration and rate of sorption. An interesting result of the study was that the slow sorption kinetics determined the level of PCP available for desorption, which was also found to be concentration dependent.

Effect of sulfur impregnation method on activated carbon uptake of gas-phase mercury
Article Abstract:
Sulfur-impregnated carbon (HGR) and carbon impregnated with sulfur in the laboratory (BPL-S) similarly hastened the removal of mercury gas at low influent mercury concentrations and low temperatures. HGR's performance diminished significantly while BPL-S' improved when the temperature is increased. However, HGR performed better than BPL-S at high influent mercury concentrations, regardless of temperature.
