Lasers seek the heat: To get the most out of fusion, the condition of the plasma must be measured, but at temperatures over 100million degrees C few technologies are up to the job
Article Abstract:
Fusion occurs naturally and the fuel source for nuclear fusion is plasma, contained by a process called magnetic confinement. The temperature of the plasma must reach over 100 million degrees C in order for fusion to occur on earth. The Joint European Torus (JET) project is the only experiment globally to operate with the deuterium-tritium fuel mixture of a future commercial power station. Recent experiments involve holding the plasma in a spherical form, and there are now several spherical tokamaks under construction.

Taken off-line
Article Abstract:
The use of coordinate measuring machines (CMM) has hastened the inspection process on the shop floor but off-line programming can cause serious bottlenecks in the production process. Many potential problems are associated with the 3D CAD model of the part to be measured, with data exchange between CMM and CAD not being straightforward. However, Silma has developed the CimStation OLP, which eliminates data exchange by allowing the system to directly read 3D CAD models from multiple CAD systems.

Connected for business
Article Abstract:
Modern PLC or CNC machining tool production costs can represent nearly 76% of total costs, although new production methods and more flexible machines have reduced costs. Structural and technical proposals within the framework of the Verin Deutscher Werkzeugmaschinenfabriken (VDW) backed Installation Technology in Machine Tools Project, aim for a more economic installation technology, based on detailed analysis.
