Article Abstract:
The process of measuring color is difficult and complex because it is not objective. Colour measurement devices attempt to mimic the functions of the human eye and there are two standard observer models in common use. One is based on the model created by the commission international des eclairages (CIE) in the 1930s. The CIE model provides an ideal spectral response for red, blue and green. The most commonly used devices for measuring colour are the tristimulus filter colorimeter and the spectrophotometer. The calibration of different measuring devices is controlled by the UK's National Physical Laboratory.
