Linear progression
Article Abstract:
There is a wide range of linear motion systems available from a number of manufacturers vying with each other in terms of price, accuracy, stiffness and many other characteristics. Linear motion systems are facing heavier and more demanding loads. Time and Precision's linear guide technology permits its LRA and LRB series tables to place loads up to 200 kg with a resolution of 1 micron and repeatability better than 5 microns. Hepco has also tackled high loads with its heavy duty system which has found use in the nuclear, medical, robot and automotive industries in handling and assembling.

Article Abstract:
Ever increasing automation in electrochemical systems, process applications and factories requires more sensors. The increased number of devices creates problems in wiring them to control systems. Research is being done to find more economical ways of connecting sensors to a machine. Newly developed Control Area Network (CAN) systems link all electronic components on a single network. CAN helps in reducing wiring and improving reliability.

Article Abstract:
The Sira Technology Center has introduced an Intelligent Imaging Program which utilizes sensing technology, data processing and man-machine interfaces. IBM UK scientific Center, Hursley Park in Winchester, UK, is interested in this program and is currently working on two major projects linked to the program. The imaging systems can suitably be used in image analysis, CAD cameras, 3D-imaging, image fusion and X-ray imaging.
