Lofty flashes come down to earth
Article Abstract:
Meteorologist Walter Lyons invited 16 research groups to his Ft Collins, CO, home to collect data on the flashes of color high above a thunderstorm, a regular sight from his yard. Measurements suggest that both pulsed energy from lighting bolts and a slower electrostatic mechanism are at work.

Cheapest mission finds moon's frozen water

The Lunar Prospector is one of the cheapest and most efficient missions of NASA's Discovery program. The Prospector proved its worth by uncovering definitive evidence of water frozen near the lunar poles.
