Rough road for highway system bill
Article Abstract:
A meeting has been organized between members of the House of Representatives and the Senate to resolve the issue of the National Highway System (NHS) before Sep. 30, 1995. NHS is a part of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991. The safety measures in the different versions of the bills passed by the House and the Senate were rejected by some important senators. Trust-fund integrity at stake
Article Abstract:
Representative Bud Shuster, chairman of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, has introduced the Truth in Budgeting Act to transform federal management of the nation's public work infrastructure. This bill, if implemented, will ensure that user fees for Highway, Airport and Airway, Inland Waterway and Harbor Maintenance trust funds are used for their specified purposes and not for deficit reduction.
