Measured change
Article Abstract:
Measuring machine technology has made significant progress, but the pace of development of some aspects of software used in this industry has been slow. This has resulted in manufacture of instruments that have components with wrong measurements. The personnel using the instruments are not well versed in technical concepts and are not computer literate. Efforts are being made to improve the quality of instruments by modernizing the industry machinery and using better calibration systems.

Time for change
Article Abstract:
European governments and the EU should realize the importance of design to the future competitiveness of European firms. Governments must prevent a worsening of the problem by convincing firms of the value of design while the EU should develop policies promoting the more effective use of design.
