Molecule of the year 1995
Article Abstract:
The 1995 Molecule of the Year is not a molecule, but the Bose-Einstein condensate, a new state of matter predicted in 1925 by Albert Einstein. The condensate, achieved at near absolute zero by Univ of Colorado and National Institute of Standard teams, was the result of worldwide cooperation.

Bose-Einstein condensates display their first tricks
Article Abstract:
Work with Bose-Einstein condensates, a new state of matter in which atoms fuse into one quantum-mechanical entity, has progressed rapidly in the year since they were first created at the Univ of Colorado. An MIT team has created condensates of 5 million atoms that survive up to 30 seconds.

An intimate gathering of bosons
Article Abstract:
Researchers have created the first observable Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) by laser- and evaporative-cooling a rubidium gas to a point at which thousands of its atoms share one quantum state. BEC has been predicted as the basis for phenomenon such as the superfluidity of liquid helium.
