Natural strain
Article Abstract:
A natural measure for strain involves the mapping of mixed tensor fields, characterizing the body to Cartesian fields, in the body manifold of A.S. Lodge. The construction of physical tensor fields in the body manifold is simpler than that in the Cartesian space. The strains and strain-rate measures are mapped from the body to space both in Lagrangian and Eulerian coordinates and compared to the available strains and strain-rates. A simplified Cartesian formulation of the H. Hencky's strain-rate in the Lagrangian state is derived.

Influence of strain rate and temperature on the radial compression behavior of wet spruce
Article Abstract:
Temperature and strain rate play an important role in the mechanical behavior of wet spruce during radial compression. An increase in temperature increases plastic strain and reduces plateau stress, which depends on the strain rate. This increases the collapsibility and flexibility of the fibers, and produces strong paper sheets. Lumen water affects the fracture behavior at high strain rates and increases the energy demand significantly.

Measuring strain distribution during mesoscopic domain reorientation in a ferroelectric material
Article Abstract:
Strain concentrations between dissimilar oriented domain structures were studied using a moire interferometry technique. The commercially available material PZT-5H was used and results showed major strain mismatches along the boundary of dissimilar oriented domains, indicating a source of microcrack initiation and fatigue degradation.
