New finds rekindle debate over anthropoid origins
Article Abstract:
Elwyn Simons strengthened his 1990 claim that Catopithecus was the common ancestor of the higher primates with new findings of complete skulls and teeth, in Egypt's Fayum Desert. He believes they are related to an extinct primate group known as adapids. Other competing theories are discussed.

The American Assn for the Advancement of Science report 'Benchmarks for Scientific Literacy' presents recommendations for scientific concepts to be taught in grades kindergarten through 12. It is part of an ongoing effort by science educators to reform the science curriculum.
