Will Fermilab find its future by looking to the stars?
Article Abstract:
Fermilab will enter an area of research different from that of sub-atomic particles. It will join with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey in a $25 million multi-institution project to map nearly a million galaxies. The possible impact of their participation is discussed.

A leaner, meaner infrared satellite
Article Abstract:
The Jet Propulsion Laboratory downsized its Space Infrared Telescope Facility (SIRTF) to attain funding when Congress denied funding for the original satellite. The second version is smaller and designed to orbit the sun rather than the earth.
