Article Abstract:
Research indicates that 10,000 rather than 500 individuals of a species are necessary to assure its long-term survival. The finding suggests that efforts to maintain species that number in the hundreds may serve only to enable genetic damage to accrue.

Article Abstract:
The faunal assemblage associated with the Sterkfontein Member 2 indicates that the hominid may be younger than its discoverers estimate. If the younger age is correct, the hominid may be a member of the Australopithecus africanus species.
