Asian Anthropoids strike back
Article Abstract:
K. Christopher Beard presented evidence at the 1995 annual meeting of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology that Eosimias, rather than Catopithecus, is the oldest known anthropoid. If accurate, the finding suggests that higher primates originated in Asia rather than Africa.

New hominid crowds the field
Article Abstract:
Mauve Leaky and her colleagues announced their discovery of a new species of hominid, Australopithecus anamensis. The identification is based on fossils collected from two sites near Kenya's Lake Turkana. The fossils date back to 3.9 million to 4.2 million years ago.
