New knockout mice point to molecular basis of memory
Article Abstract:
A new limited knockout mouse, in which a gene coding for a neurotransmitter receptor was deleted only from a small group of cells in the hippocampus, helped identify molecular changes responsible for memory. The experiments examine memory processes from molecular changes to neuronal misfiring to impaired learning.

New lesion found in diseased brains
Article Abstract:
Research has uncovered a third type of brain lesion in Alzheimer's patients. Dubbed 'AMY plaques' because they were misidentified as amyloid plaques, these lesions are as prevalent as plaques that contain B-amyloid protein and could play a role in causing the disease.
