New light on fate of the universe
Article Abstract:
Two independent groups of astronomers have concluded that the expansion rate of the universe has slowed very little and that gravity will never stop it. The scientists reached their conclusions after determining how quickly distant supernovae are moving away from the Earth.

Researchers help Chicago schools onto the Internet

The Chicago Public Schools/University of Chicago Internet Project is a pilot program for a plan to introduce the Internet to all 557 Chicago public schools. The project has attracted attention because of its extensive follow up efforts to evaluate progress in the classroom.

Light guides may help optical circuits turn the corner

Researchers have produced an important breakthrough in optoelectronic technology by developing a curved waveguide on a gallium arsenide-based semiconductor that routes light without leaking it. The technology traps light with waveguides made of oxide layers.
