Research supports the idea environmental factors during a child's early life can significantly contribute to a persons IQ, for better or worse. The implication is that well-thought out day-care programs might decrease the possible of mental impairment and school by up 23% of US children living in poverty. The research is outlined.

A compilation of 101 separate studies finds a 3.26-IQ-point deficit among cocaine-exposed schoolchildren.
