Polyploidy--More Is More or Less
Article Abstract:
Many plants and animals are polyploid with more than two sets of chromosomes. Bananas are triploid and wheat is hexaploid. More than half of the flowering plant species are polyploid. Fewer animals are polyploid though salmonid fish and some amphibians have doubled or tripled their ploidy.

The clonal theory of eukaryotic genome evolution relies heavily on ribosomal RNA analysis, which does not identify genomes that are misters of genes from different sources. There is growing evidence of horizontal gene transfer and chimerism in prokaryote as well as eukaryotes.
