On the acid-base chemistry of permanently charged minerals
Article Abstract:
Investigations into the effects of permanent charge on the acid-base properties of surface complexation models materials whose charges are disributed uniformly on the surface follow the Guoy-Chapman model where the surface potential is treated as a function of surface charge and ionic strength. For porous materials whose charge is distributed both on the internal and external surfaces, permanent charge follows the Poisson-Boltzmann model where surface potential is treated as a function of internal charge, ionic strength and surface charge.

Surface oxidationof pyrite as a function of pH
Article Abstract:
Investigations into the oxidation of pyrite over a pH range with trace oxygen showed that oxidation effects changes in the pyrite surface with an accompanying acidification of the surface, that is observable throughout the pH range tested. Studies also showed that the oxidation of pyrite at any pH range results in the assumption of the sulfur of the FeS2 surface of the (-1) oxidation state. Pyrite was also shown to dissociate into Fe(II) and SO4(2-) components when subjected to acidic conditions, whose pH falls below 4.

On points of zero change
Article Abstract:
Investigations into the role of surface charge in the molecular model of the adsorbent-aqueous solution interface showed that surface charge has several generic properties that are involved in the action of th zero charge principle that governs molecular models of the electrical double layer. One of the generic properties concern the role of pH in effecting the activity of the surface charge on the inner-sphere surface of the complexation.
